Will Joe Flacco Start Over Anthony Richardson?

On Monday, Colts head coach Shane Steichen ended any murmurs of quarterback controversy.

Steichen told reporters (via Kevin Bowen) that Richardson is the Colts’ starting quarterback when healthy. Flacco will remain the starter until Richardson can play again.

Richardson suffered an oblique injury and left the game in Week 4’s victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Flacco entered the game in the first quarter and immediately started slinging the football with power and accuracy.

Flacco completed 16 of 26 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns in the Colts’ 27-24 win over the Steelers.

Joe Flacco Thrived In Week 5 Loss

In Week 5, Flacco proved he can still excel in the NFL.

Flacco, 39, completed 33 of 43 passes for 359 yards and three touchdowns in a Colts’ 37-34 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Flacco finished the game with a terrific passer rating of 124.1.

Flacco’s career resurgence stems from his 2023 season with the Cleveland Browns. After Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending injury, Flacco joined the Browns mid-season in 2023.

Flacco went 4-1 in five starts and led the Browns to the Wild Card round, where they eventually lost to the Houston Texans. Flacco won the AP Comeback Player of the Year for his herculean efforts.

The Colts travel to Tennessee in Week 6 to play the Titans.
