The Match is a golf event that has been going on since 2018, and it is back for 2024. But there is an added wrinkle this year that is different from any in the past, and includes celebrities of all different kinds.

“The Match” For 2024 Features Big Name Celebrities

The celebrity version will officially be called “The Match: Superstars”. The event will be played over a two-day period, which is coming up on November 21st and 22nd. There will be 8 golfers forming 4 teams, and it will be played in a bracket form. There will be match play for the first round, and followed by individual play in the semi and final rounds.

The teams are already set. Mark Wahlberg and Michael Phelps will take on Blake Griffin and Nate Bargatze in the first round, followed by Charles Barkley and Ken Griffy Jr against Wayne Gretzky and Bill Murray. The grand prize for first place is a cool $1 million.

Most will be making their debut at the event, while Barkley is making his 9th appearance between participating and commentating. Bubba Watson will be on the microphone this year, calling the action.

Mahomes & Kelce Won The 2023 Version Of The Event

The most recent version of The Match happened earlier this year. The format was a 12-hole skins game that was eventually won by Rory McIlroy, who dominated by winning 10 of the available skins. The 2023 version featured Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce against Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, which the NFL players wound up winning.

The celebrity event is not to be confused with the event taking place in December. Dubbed “The Showdown” there will be a matchup of professional golfers from both the PGA and LIV tours. That will be an 18 hole match, with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler taking on Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.

“The Match” will be featured on TNT and will be streaming on Max as well.
