New England Patriots Ending Pursuit Of Brandon Aiyuk

Cross off New England as a potential destination for Aiyuk.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New England Patriots have ended trade discussions with the 49ers.

Aiyuk is looking for a new deal that pays him like a top wide receiver. The 49ers receiver is set to make $14.124 million on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal this season.

Schefter’s report states New England was willing to make Aiyuk one of the top five highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL in average salary per year. That means Aiyuk’s APY would be in the $30 million range.

However, New England is now out of the Aiyuk sweepstakes.

Pittsburgh Steelers Emerge As Favorite To Land Brandon Aiyuk

The three leading candidates to land Aiyuk have been the Patriots, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Per Andrew Fillipponi, the Steelers are about to win the Aiyuk sweepstakes. Fillipponi’s report states the Steelers have verbally agreed to acquire Aiyuk from the 49ers. The terms and contract details are being finalized.

Compensation has yet to be determined, but expect Pittsburgh to send multiple draft picks to San Francisco in exchange for Aiyuk.

The 26-year-old is the perfect weapon for new quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

Aiyuk is coming off a stellar 2023 campaign, registering 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.
