Anthony Davis Becomes 7th Laker to Score 150+ Points in 1st 5 Games of a Season

Anthony Davis is now officially the seventh Los Angeles Lakers player to score at least 150 points in the first five games of an NBA season. Davis, 31, is also the first Laker to post such numbers since Kobe Bryant in 2009.

According to Stathead, Davis joins Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, and George Mikan. Kobe made the list three times, while West’s name is featured for five separate seasons.

In Bryant’s 14th season, he logged 166 points with Los Angeles from Oct. 27, 2009, through Nov. 4, 2009. Additionally, West scored a franchise-record 175 points during his 10th season from Oct. 17, 1969, to Oct. 24, 1969.

Through five games in his 13th NBA season, Davis has totals of 153 points, 61 total rebounds, 15 assists, eight steals, and 10 blocks in 180 minutes of action. He recorded a season-high 36 points in Los Angeles’ season-opener victory.

The nine-time All-Star forward is averaging 30.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.6 steals, 2.0 blocks, and 37.5 minutes while shooting 53.7% from the floor, 33.3% from 3-point range, and 81.3% at the free throw line.

Davis became the third Lakers player to post back-to-back games with at least 35 points to open an NBA season

Earlier this week, Davis also became just the third Lakers player to record back-to-back games with at least 35 points to open an NBA season, joining West (1969-70) and Baylor (1962-63).

“It’s very important that he’s the main focal point for us every single night,” LeBron James said after finishing with 21 points and eight assists against the Phoenix Suns.

“We know what he’s going to do defensively, but offensively we have to find him in multiple places on the floor throughout the whole game. And we’ve done that through two games.”

In Los Angeles’ 134-110 blowout loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night, he had 22 points, 13 rebounds, and a pair each of assists and steals in 31 minutes played.

At the moment, Davis leads the NBA this season in points (153) and defensive rebounds (43).

The Chicago native also ranks second in total rebounds (61), 15th in offensive boards (13), second in free throws (45), and second in player efficiency rating (30.6).

The Lakers continue their road trip on Friday in Toronto.
