To finish Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season, the New York Jets were on the road to face the San Francisco 49ers. Roughly an hour before kickoff, it was announced that the Niners All-Pro RB Christian McCaffrey would miss the game with a calf/Achilles injury. Heading into the contest, McCaffrey was questionable but there was an expectation that he would be available. Savvy bettors used that knowledge and placed wagers on McCaffrey’s backup, Jordan Mason.

On the bet365 sportsbook, Jordan Mason’s over/under for rushing yards was (13.5) at (-110). However, bet365 altered the original line that bettors made to (62.5) rushing yards. The odds on that bet were now (-5000). This was a shady move by the sportsbook. After receiving major backlash from the sports betting community, bet365 has reconsidered its decision to adjust the payouts for Jordan Mason. Below, you’ll see an example of the email that was sent to bet365 customers who wagered on the 49ers backup RB.

“We are contacting you regarding bet ID [redacted] placed at the odds of -110 on Jordan Mason – Over 13.5 (Player Rushing Yards NY Jets @ SF 49ers). We have identified that this selection was placed at incorrect odds and as such, in accordance with our rules, will be settled at -5000.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.”

Has bet365 run into more trouble besides the Jordan Mason bets?

The 49ers bulled the Jets in Week 1 for 180 rushing yards. Backup RB Jordan Mason got the first start of his professional career with Christian McCaffrey out. Mason made the most of his opportunity, carrying the ball 28 times for 147 rushing yards and a touchdown. The former undrafted RB well exceeded his overprop for rushing yards on Monday night. After the game, bet365 contacted customers via email that placed a wager on Jordan Mason’s rushing prop. They were notified that the odds were changed from (-110) to (-5000). Not even 24 hours later bet365 went on social media and announced they would be reversing the switch.

This is not the first time that bet365 has been caught adjusting wagers. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement fined bet365 $33,000 a few weeks ago. Bet365 adjusted wagers and accepted bets on prohibited events. Additionally, that came just three weeks after they paid out $519,323.32 in revised odds over three years.
