Spoiler alert: The Houston Texans‘ 2022 NFL schedule is going to feature quite a few losses.

Unless you’re the world’s biggest believer in Davis Mills, you’re probably not too swayed by a free-agent class highlighted by cornerback Steven Nelson and running back Marlon Mack. And while Derek Stingley, Kenyon Green, Jalen Pitre, John Metchie III, Christian Harris, and Dameon Pierce give the franchise a number of foundational pieces as members of the latest draft class, the reaped rewards will likely come further down the road.

(Plus, Sportscasting’s official rankings gave Houston the league’s No. 26 draft class, so the optimism stems more from the raw talent and quantity of picks than the immediate fits.)

The Texans have some of the longest odds to win the Super Bowl of any team heading into the 2022 campaign, and earning even a handful of victories would — and should — be considered a successful season considering the lack of established talent.

Then again, maybe Mills really is as good as some internal members of the organization seem to believe he can be?
