Drake Loses $1M Betting On Oilers, Mavericks To Win Stanley Cup, NBA Finals

Rapper Drake has not had the best of luck with his sports-betting picks as of late, with losing $1 million picking the Dallas Mavericks to win the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics and betting the Edmonton Oilers over the Florida Panthers in the NHL’s Stanley Cup Final.

Drake lost $500,000 bet on Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, another half a million on the Edmonton Oilers in Stanley Cup Final

Drake, 37, placed a $500,000 bet on the Oilers to win the Stanley Cup, but he ended up losing that wager when the Panthers won Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final by a 2-1 score on Monday night.

If the bet would’ve cashed, the rapper would’ve won $1.025 million.

This came after Drake had also placed a $500,000 bet on the Mavericks to upset the Celtics in the NBA Finals.

Champagne Papi lost that bet when Boston defeated the Mavs in five games to win its 18th NBA championship. Had the Mavericks clinched their first title since 2011, Drake would’ve taken home $1.375 million.

These two betting losses only help bolster the internet sensation known as the “Drake Curse,” where teams and athletes lose more often than not when the rapper either publicly supports or bets money on them.

Drizzy also missed out on a $1 million payout after Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury in a heavyweight boxing fight

Although the Oilers rallied to erase a 3-0 series deficit to force a Game 7, perhaps the Canadian club was still destined to lose after the five-time Grammy Award winner placed his wager.

Edmonton star forward Connor McDavid, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the NHL playoff MVP, recorded three goals and five assists in Games 4 and 5 to help the Oilers stay alive in the series.

Had the Oilers won Game 7, they would’ve become just the second team in NHL history to come back from a 3-0 deficit in the Stanley Cup Final. The 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs remain the only team in league history to accomplish that feat.

To add insult to injury, Drake also suffered a big loss after betting on Tyson Fury to beat Oleksandr Usyk in a heavyweight boxing fight on May 18.

Usyk’s victory caused the “Rich Baby Daddy” singer to miss out on a $1 million payout.
