The Dallas Cowboys Have the Easiest 2022 NFL Schedule, NFC East Has the Four Easiest Overall
While the 2021 NFL season really can’t be considered a true success for the Dallas Cowboys, given the way it ended, it was at least better than the campaigns they put on the previous couple of years.
Following a dreadful 2020 season in which Dallas finished 6-10 and missed the NFL playoffs for the second consecutive year, the Cowboys bounced back nicely in 2021. Behind a mostly healthy Dak Prescott and a revamped defense under Dan Quinn, “America’s Team” went 12-5 in the league’s inaugural 17-game season and won the NFC East, earning a postseason berth for the first time since 2018.
Unfortunately for Jerry Jones & Co., the third-seeded Cowboys were upset at home in the Wild Card Round by their longtime rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, who then upset the top-seeded Green Bay Packers before losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion LA Rams in the NFC Championship Game.
It’s been quite a while since Dallas has been to the NFC Championship Game themselves. If you’re looking for the exact number, 26 seasons have passed, but who’s counting? Could this upcoming season finally be the year that drought ends?
Well, if you believe in the formula of using 2022 opponents’ winning percentage from last season to calculate the strength of schedule for all 32 teams, then the Cowboys should at least have a decent shot as they have the “easiest” schedule of anyone. Well, they are tied for the easiest anyway with the Washington Commanders.
In 2021, the collective win-loss record for the Cowboys’ and Commanders’ opponents was 133-155-1 (.462). And interestingly enough, the other two teams in the NFC East are next in line when it comes to the easiest 2022 NFL schedule. The Philadelphia Eagles’ 2022 opponents had a win-loss record last year of 133-154-2 (.464), while the New York Giants’ foes this upcoming season had a collective mark of 134-154-1 (.465) in 2021.
Who do the Dallas Cowboys play in 2022?
The Dallas Cowboys certainly have an interesting mix of opponents in 2022.
Of course, there are the six NFC East games against the Commanders (7-10), Eagles (9-8), and Giants (4-13).
As this is the NFC East’s year to face off with the NFC North, the Cowboys will battle the Green Bay Packers (13-4), Minnesota Vikings (8-9), Chicago Bears (6-11), and Detroit Lions (3-13).
2022 is also the division’s year to square off with the AFC South, meaning Dallas will face the Tennessee Titans (12-5), Indianapolis Colts (9-8), Houston Texans (4-13), and Jacksonville Jaguars (3-14).
And their first-place finish in the NFC East also pits the Cowboys against the NFC South champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (13-4) and the NFC West and Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams (12-5). Dallas will also face the other Super Bowl competitor, the AFC North champion Cincinnati Bengals (10-7).
