Marvel is currently in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, all eyes are on Phase Six because of the upcoming team-up movie, Avengers 5. Which directors have the best odds to helm the next installment of the Avengers series?

The next Avengers film is Avengers 5, scheduled for May 1, 2026. Originally known as The Kang Dynasty, the title is currently unknown after the firing of Jonathan Majors as Kang.

Avengers 5 also needs a new director because Destin Daniel Cretton exited the project in November 2023.

The top gambling sites have provided odds on the directors for Avengers 5.

Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (+150) are the betting favorites to direct Avengers 5. Benson and Moorhead directed episodes of Moon Knight, Loki, and Daredevil: Born Again. Because of the duo’s familiarity with the Multiverse from Loki, a concept that will be explored in Avengers 5, it could help them land the directing gig.

Jon Favreau (+300) is an MCU veteran, having played Happy Hogan and directed Iron Man and Iron Man 2. There are rumors that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has spoken with Favreau about directing Avengers 5. However, Favreau’s MCU return may not be plausible because of his directing commitment to 2026’s The Mandalorian & Grogu.

The name to keep an eye on is Shawn Levy (+600). Per Deadline, Levy is being courted to direct Avengers 5. Levy is the director of Marvel’s next feature film, Deadpool & Wolverine. Based on box office tracking, Deadpool & Wolverine will shatter box office records for an R-rated movie with an opening weekend of over $200 million domestically.

Keeping Levy in Marvel after a hit like Deadpool & Wolverine makes sense. However, Levy’s work on Stranger Things season 5 and the development of his Star Wars film may prevent him from directing Avengers 5.

Like Favreau, Ryan Coogler (+800) has been rumored to direct Avengers 5. Coogler directed both Black Panther films, with the first outing becoming the only MCU film nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
