Thunder, Cavaliers Both Win To Remain Only Unbeaten Teams In The NBA
The Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers entered Monday evening as the only undefeated teams remaining in the NBA. They were both in action during the night’s slate of games, both playing at home against talented opponents.
One of them was victorious in a hard fought battle, the other in a blowout, and we’ll make it until at least November 6th with both remaining unbeaten.
Cavs, Thunder Remain Final Unbeaten Teams In The NBA
After their two-point win over the floundering Milwaukee Bucks, the Cavaliers are now 8-0. They were able to fatten up early on against lesser opponents, but their last 5 wins have come against the Knicks, Lakers, Magic, and Bucks twice. Their 122.3 points per game is second in the NBA, behind only the Celtics, and their defense is ranked 10th overall in points allowed.

The Thunder took down the Orlando Magic later in the night to push their record to 7-0. They were one of the pre-season favorites after a successful season in 2023-24, and have proven that they deserve the praise through the first three weeks of the 2024-25 campaign. They are sporting a +17.4 point differential, easily the best in the league, thanks to a defense that allows a wildly impressive 95.9 points per game.

So how long will we go before either loses a game? The Golden State Warriors, who have gotten out to a 6-1 start, will visit both the Cavaliers and Thunder on their current road trip, and will be the biggest test for both teams so far this season. While Cleveland’s only game between now and their matchup with Steph Curry and company will be against the Pelicans, the Thunder will face a much tougher test when they take on the Nuggets on Wednesday.
The Celtics are one game behind the Cavaliers with a record of 7-1, but there is a sizeable gap between the top two teams and the rest of the Eastern Conference. The top of the West is a bit more crowded for the Thunder. Golden State is just one game back after keeping pace with their win over the Wizards on Monday, and the Suns and Mavericks are all within 2.5 games.
