NASCAR: Truck Series - Toyota 200

Nick Sanchez may need some home cooking.

The second-year NASCAR Truck Series playoff driver qualified for his second Round of 8, despite a P22 during the circuit’s last outing at Talladega Superspeedway on Oct. 4. Sanchez also made headlines for an altercation with Matt Crafton.

It’s been a long three weeks for Sanchez, who sits seventh in postseason standings, 20 points behind Ty Majeski. Grant Enfinger, who captured the Round of 8 opener at Talladega, was the first to qualify for next month’s Championship 4 event.

By returning to the track where he raced go-karts as a 12-year-old, Sanchez intends to utilize his familiarity with the 1.5-mile oval to compile playoff points.

“I approach the race like I need to win it, like I’m in a must-win situation,” Sanchez told WSVN Miami. “I want to sit on the pole, I want to win both stages, lead every lap, and win the race. That’s my expectation.”

In 20 Truck starts this season, Sanchez earned two wins and 12 top-10 finishes. As one of the few Cuban American competitors on any major stock-car racing circuits, Sanchez understands the spotlight he’ll be under each time he returns to Homestead-Miami – or anywhere.

“Doesn’t matter where I go in this country, you always have a Hispanic fan that sees the last name Sanchez,” he said. “When people think of Miami, they don’t necessarily categorize it with race cars, racing and, you know, to to be from there, to grow up from Miami, all my families there and to win in something that is totally uncommon for, you know, a Miami native to be in racing and NASCAR is really cool.”
