49ers vs. Seahawks Prediction, Picks, Player Props

49ers vs. Seahawks on Thursday Night Football features two NFC West hopefuls in the kickoff to Week 6 of the 2024 NFL season.

Thursday Night Football brings us an NFC West showdown with first place on the line as the San Francisco 49ers head to Lumen Field at 2-3 to face the 3-2 Seattle Seahawks. Both teams come into this game off tough losses in Week 5. Seattle fell to the Giants at home in a disappointing loss. Meanwhile, the 49ers were shut out 14-0 in the second half of their game against Arizona, an equally frustrating 24-23 loss.

San Francisco’s season hasn’t gone as expected. Injuries have played their part, but sitting at 2-3 wasn’t in the script for a team that entered with high hopes. Their offense is ranked 10th in the league, averaging 25.2 points per game, and their defense ranks 12th, allowing 21.2 points per contest. But the numbers haven’t translated into wins.

With Christian McCaffrey out, Jordan Mason has stepped in admirably, rushing for 447 yards and three touchdowns this season. Still, for the 49ers to have a chance, they must address their turnover issues—mistakes that have cost them in critical moments.

This game is about more than just standings for San Francisco; it’s a chance to regain their footing and find their rhythm again. Hungry to hold onto first place, the Seahawks won’t make it easy. On a night like this, under the lights and with the division at stake, it’s a test of who’s ready to take control in the NFC West. For the 49ers, it’s a chance to remind everyone who they are.

49ers vs. Seahawks Picks, Predictions, and Best Player Prop Bets

Thursday’s trip to Seattle presents the San Francisco 49ers with a daunting challenge, playing their sixth game in just 31 days. Fatigue is starting to show, as evidenced by their recent collapse—a blown 10-point lead in the fourth quarter that resulted in a 24-23 loss to Arizona. Despite that, the 49ers have won three straight against the Seahawks, and they’ll need every bit of that momentum heading into this pivotal NFC West clash.

Both defenses are expected to keep this game tight and low-scoring. However, San Francisco’s offense continues to rank among the league’s elite, currently sitting at No. 8 in EPA per play. Led by Brock Purdy, who is second in completed air yards per attempt, the 49ers boast one of the most efficient passing attacks in the NFL. Purdy has thrived against Seattle in his young career, and this week, he faces a Seahawks defense that has struggled recently, allowing 24 first-downs and seven third-down conversions to the Giants last week alone.

While the 49ers are excellent at moving the chains—tied for second in first downs per game and fifth in third-down conversion rate—their defense has not consistently matched that offensive firepower. San Francisco is in the middle of the pack regarding EPA allowed per play, and its struggles become more apparent in the second half of games.

Once ranked among the best in advanced metrics, Seattle’s defense has fallen hard in recent weeks. After facing weak quarterback play early in the season, it’s plummeted to 31st in EPA allowed per play in its last two outings against the Lions and Giants. Injuries have only worsened its defensive woes.

For the 49ers, Thursday is about resilience, shaking off fatigue, and taking control in a critical divisional showdown.

George Kittle – TE | 49ers –  Over 48.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

There are plenty of playmakers on both sides, making player prop bets tricky, but George Kittle stands out as a solid option. Since returning from injury, Kittle has been heavily involved, playing 94% and 91% of the snaps over the past two weeks. His chemistry with Brock Purdy is undeniable. Just this past Sunday, Kittle hauled in eight catches on 12 targets for 64 yards and a touchdown against Arizona, marking his third consecutive game with a score.

Now, he faces a Seattle defense that has struggled against tight ends, allowing the sixth-most receiving yards per game to the position (57.2). With Purdy looking his way frequently, Kittle’s matchup against the Seahawks is one that has plenty of upside. Expect Kittle to continue his strong run of form in this favorable spot. Right now, Kittle is listed as questionable due to a rib injury, but he is expected to be a full-go on Thursday.

Brock Purdy – QB | 49ers –  Over 249.5 Passing Yards (-110)

Brock Purdy was riding a hot streak of three straight games with over 280 passing yards—until a tough second half limited him to just 244 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals. Now, he faces a Seattle Seahawks defense coming off a shaky performance against the New York Giants, where they allowed 245 passing yards to a team missing its top pass-catcher, Malik Nabers.

The week before, Seattle gave up a flawless performance to Jared Goff, who went a perfect 18-of-18 for 292 yards and two touchdowns. The Seahawks were once seen as a top-10 defense, but recent weeks have exposed cracks in that narrative. Their Week 5 outing was particularly troubling. The Giants were without their key playmakers—Nabers and starting running back Tyrone Tracy Jr.—yet Seattle’s defense faltered. Darius Slayton stepped up, putting up a line reminiscent of Nabers, with 122 yards and a touchdown. Tracy, filling in, exploded for 129 yards on the ground, averaging 7.2 yards per carry, while Daniel Jones posted a 109.6 quarterback rating.

It’s becoming clear that Seattle’s early defensive success may have been more about feasting on backup quarterbacks than true dominance. As the Seahawks prepare for Purdy, a quarterback known for efficiency and rhythm, their recent struggles in defending the pass loom large. I like Purdy to get into a rhythm and hit this passing yards over prop.

The Prediction: 49ers 27 – Seahawks 23

Best Bets:

  • 49ers -3.5
  • George Kittle OVER 48.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
  • Brock Purdy OVER 249.5 Passing Yards (-110)
