Bernardo Silva Arsenal

British broadcaster Piers Morgan has hit out at Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva after he criticized Arsenal’s playing style in Sunday’s Premier League clash. Morgan claimed the Gunners were dominating the Cityzens, adding the hosts should not have finished the game with 11 players.

Bernardo Silva Took Aim At Arsenal After 2-2 Draw

Arsenal traveled to the Etihad Stadium for their Premier League clash with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, September 22. The home side got their noses ahead in the ninth minute, with Erling Haaland popping up with the opener. After surviving a couple of scares, the Gunners equalized through a brilliant Riccardo Calafiori strike from outside the box in the 22nd minute. Then, in the first minute of first-half injury time, Gabriel Magalhaes fired Arsenal into the lead.

Arsenal’s joy, however, was short-lived as Leandro Trossard got sent off after seeing a second yellow card in the eighth minute of injury time. Manchester City were all over 10-man Arsenal in the second half but needed a 90+8th minute equalizer from John Stones to salvage a point.

Following the match, Silva drew parallels between Liverpool and Arsenal, claiming the Reds always took them head-on, unlike the Gunners. He also suggested the North London outfit did not possess a winning mentality.

Piers Morgan Slams Manchester City Dismisses Bernardo Silva’s Claim

Renowned Arsenal supporter Morgan did not take the criticism lightly and took it upon himself to dismiss Silva’s claim. On talkSPORT, Morgan said:

What a load of absolute baloney. When we were 11 v 11, let me remind him [Silva], we were absolutely battering them. It should have been three if Gabriel scored a brilliant header but he missed an easier one a few minutes earlier, we were all over them like a rash! And by the way, why did City still have 11 players?

Why did Haaland, who tried to decapitate Gabriel with the ball, right, who was running over players… Why did Walker, who in the goal video, Walker’s put on Gabriel, does a terrible job thankfully, but he’s poking him like he’s got a cattle prod, where are the red cards and yellow cards for these miscreants?

He concluded by adding:

The truth is, one rule for City at the Etihad, one rule for everybody else, and despite that once again abusing the rules, we managed to come within 90 seconds or so of what would have been the greatest win of Arteta’s managerial career.”

Arsenal played out a goalless draw with Man City at the Etihad Stadium last season. Ultimately, they lost the title by two points. Mikel Arteta will pray that Sunday’s stalemate does not have the same effect at the end of the season.
