How Much Does Cooper Rush Make for the Dallas Cowboys?
Nobody will ever mistake Cooper Rush for Dak Prescott, either in talent or by the size of his paychecks from the Dallas Cowboys.
Never even a First-Team All-MAC selection while at Central Michigan, Rush went unselected in the 2017 NFL Draft but was signed by Jerry Jones as an undrafted free agent soon after. Despite a strong preseason, he was named the team’s third-string QB behind Prescott and now-Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
But when Moore was released a few weeks into the season, Rush was bumped up on the depth chart and remained the team’s QB2 until the end of the 2019 season. He earned $1.67 million combined over those first three seasons.
When Dallas brought in Andy Dalton to back up Prescott in 2020, Rush was waived and claimed by the New York Giants, who signed him to their practice squad. But when Dak went down with a season-ending ankle injury, the Cowboys brought him back, and he’s been with the team ever since as QB2.
After making a combined $354,529 between the Giants and Cowboys in 2020, he earned a career-high $920,000 in 2021. And with Prescott nursing a much more minor injury, Rush made his first career start that season against the Minnesota Vikings and played well, completing 24 of 40 passes for 325 yards with two touchdowns in a 20-16 victory.
Rush, who stands to see some significant time with Prescott nursing a thumb injury, is currently playing on a one-year deal with a base salary of $1.035 million.
