After a 4-13 season in 2021, the 2022 New York Jets schedule should be slightly easier than most, and the team added a lot of pieces in the offseason that should make it better. However, the wins and losses, in the end, will likely depend almost solely on the development of second-year quarterback Zach Wilson.

General manager Joe Douglas added some solid, but not flashy, pieces in free agency. Signings like offensive guard Laken Tomlinson, tight end C.J. Uzomah, and safety D.J. Reed didn’t make huge headlines but did make the team better.

The 2022 NFL Draft is where the team truly did work.

It ended up with the fourth-highest mark in Sportcasting’s final NFL draft grade point averages. The Jets did so on the strength of three first-round picks — Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner (CB, Cincinnati), Garrett Wilson (WR, Ohio State), and Jermaine Johnson II (DE, Florida State) — and getting the draft’s best running back in the second with Iowa State’s Breece Hall.

While the draft was great, so was last year’s, and that only resulted in four Ws.

Gang Green now has as much talent, if not more, as any team in the AFC East outside of the Buffalo Bills. There are no more excuses for head coach Robert Saleh or Wilson.

Can Wilson take the next step and get the most out of all the talent around him? And is Saleh a head coach who can lead his team to the promised land?
